Meet Our Team

May Shen is a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist (LDT) in Dallas-Fort Worth. In 2017, she started The Skilled Reader to help children gain confidence and access life opportunities through improved literacy.  

​Formerly a children's librarian in Dallas and adjunct faculty at Dallas Baptist University, May has experience working with students of all ages. She holds a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College and a M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction/ M.A. in Linguistics from The University of Texas at Arlington. She is a Registered Instructor with the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW).

Rebecca Inselman is a member of the Orton-Gillingham Academy at the Associate level. She is also a certified teacher in five areas: Reading Specialist, Middle School Language Arts, Elementary Education, Learning Disabilities, and Elementary Education. Prior to dyslexia therapy through Lexercise, she taught for 12 years in middle schools in New Hampshire, working as a Language Arts teacher, Special Ed. case manager, and Reading Specialist at different times. She was able to use the Orton-Gillingham approach with individual students and other reading programs with larger classes.

Rebecca has a B.A. in Elementary Education, with endorsements in Middle School Language Arts through Crown College in Minnesota. She holds a M.Ed. in Learning Disabilities, with endorsements as a Reading and Writing Specialist through Rivier University in New Hampshire. ​Terra Allen is a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist (SLDS) certified by The Center for Effective Reading Instruction. She has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Reading and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Throughout her career as an educator, she has fulfilled a range of roles including reading specialist, language arts teacher, and literacy coach. She also served as both a vice-principal and a principal. She has over 15 years of experience working with preschool, elementary, and middle school aged children.

She is based in Micronesia, a region where she has lived and worked for the past 16 years, deeply committed to enhancing educational outcomes for children, particularly in the area of reading. Lisa Darling has been working with children for 39 years, ever since she graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education in 1986.

She has been an elementary classroom teacher in California and Wisconsin, an elementary reading intervention teacher in the Milwaukee area, and a traveling literacy coach for Pre-K through second grade classrooms in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. All of those experiences have been rewarding, but her true love is one-on-one work with struggling students.

Lisa and her husband Wayne live in an old stone house in a suburb of Milwaukee, where they tend their flowers and a small woodland; complete fixer-upper tasks inside the house; and try to find more time for biking and kayaking.

She has many interests, including attending church and Bible study, painting furniture, traveling, learning foreign languages, playing the flute, cooking everything from scratch, making yogurt, and making sourdough bread.

Lisa has been with Lexercise since 2021 and is a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist certified by The Center for Effective Reading Instruction.

Virginia Rivas is a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach to literacy instruction. She is an accredited registered instructor with the Institute of Excellence in Writing (IEW). Virginia has a B.A. in Psychology as well as an M.A. in Teaching with certification in Pre-K through 6th grade. Additionally, she is endorsed in English for Students of Other Languages (ESOL). Virginia has over a decade of experience teaching elementary-aged students.

Megan Downs is a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist (SLDS) certified by The Center for Effective Reading Instruction.  She has over 10 years of experience teaching lower elementary grades.

Lauren Belline has been in education since 2014. She is currently in year 2 of becoming a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) and plans to sit for the exam this fall. She is certified in Middle School Language Arts, EC-12 Special Education, and EC-12 English as a Second Language. She has her B.A. in English with a minor in Psychology from Texas State University and a M.S. in Reading Research and Intervention from Texas A&M- Corpus Christi.  

Lauren has been with Lexercise since 2021. Prior to that, she taught ELA in grades 6th - 12th. She had the privilege of leading her district's secondary dyslexia team to develop a new curriculum to support middle school students in dyslexia intervention. She also worked as a secondary special education teacher where she co-wrote a school wide ELA special education curriculum. 

In addition to education, Lauren has three daughters and an abundance of pets at home that keep her busy. During her free time Lauren enjoys reading, aerial yoga, hanging out with her bearded dragon, and watching movies.

Janna Match (Therapist Emerita) is an Orton-Gillingham-trained reading specialist. She obtained her Initial, Advanced, and Supervisory level certifications through the Children's Dyslexia Centers, Inc. She is a graduate of Temple University with a Master's Degree in the Psychology of Reading and of Millersville University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education.

Through the years, she has worked in many different settings as a special educator, reading specialist, homeschool co-op facilitator, and learning center director.

In addition to playing with phonemes, morphemes, and schwas, Janna enjoys reading, hiking, bicycling, camping, kayaking, canoeing, gardening, and spending time with her family.​

In 2025, Janna retired with The Skilled Reader. During her time as a Lexercise teletherapist, she savored the opportunity to help students, working not only with them but with their families as well. An annual Book Award for students has been established in recognition of Janna's contributions to the world of dyslexia intervention and her love of words, books, and students.
