Finding the right support for dyslexia in remote places like the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, and across Asia can be tough.

Hello everyone! My name is Terra Allen, and I am a literacy teletherapist. I'm writing this from my home here in Micronesia, a place I've been proud to live and work in for the past 16 years. It's a beautiful part of the world, and I've spent a long time dedicated to help the kids here learn and grow, especially with reading.

You might have heard of dyslexia. It's a common difference in how the brain processes language, which can make reading, writing, and spelling feel really hard for kids and even adults. It's not about being smart or not trying hard enough - people with dyslexia just learn in a different way. But with the right kind of help, kids with dyslexia can absolutely learn to read well and do amazing things!

Finding the right support for dyslexia in remote places like the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, and across Asia can be tough. Sometimes, there aren't many local experts, and working with therapists far away can be tricky for families. That's why I'm so passionate about offering specialized dyslexia therapy right here, where it's needed most.

My pathway to specializing in dyslexia therapy was significantly influenced by my work in the islands. For 16 years, I worked in schools, both public and private. I've seen firsthand the struggles some students have with reading, and it fueled my desire to help in a deeper way.

So, how do I help? I use a method called Structured Literacy, which is like a roadmap for learning to read. It's a proven way to teach reading, writing, and spelling that works especially well for individuals with dyslexia. It's explicit, meaning I teach every step clearly. It's comprehensive, covering all the important pieces of language. And it's multisensory.

Now, I offer these services through teletherapy. What is teletherapy? Think of it like having a therapy session online! We connect using a computer or tablet, and we can see and talk to each other just like we were in the same room. I use a platform called Lexercise, which is designed specifically for this kind of learning. It allows for personalized, one-on-one sessions that are tailored exactly to your child's needs.

Every child with dyslexia is different, with their own unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles. I believe in creating a supportive and encouraging space where kids feel comfortable trying new things, making mistakes (because that's how we learn!), and celebrating their individual progress.

Through teletherapy, I can bring this specialized support directly into your home, no matter where you are in the Mariana Islands, Guam, or across Asia. It saves you time and travel, and we can work around your family's schedule. It's a convenient and effective way to get the expert help your child deserves.

If you've been wondering if your child's reading struggles might be due to dyslexia, or if you're looking for effective support, please know that help is available right here. By offering these services, I hope to help raise awareness about dyslexia in our communities, reduce any worries or stigma, and empower kids to overcome their reading challenges and unlock their full potential.
